Pastillas de leche are delicious, mouth-watering piece of sweetened candy made of just fresh milk (usually carabao’s milk) and sugar. Pastillas de leche also comes in different flavors and you could make your own version depending on the flavor you like. Pastillas de leche makes a great giveaway treats, children’s birthday gifts, party treats, and even as present for your friends and families. Pastillas de leche can be a good source of income too.
Pastillas de leche
Materials needed:
Wooden spoon, Measuring cups and spoons, Big cutting board, Saucepan, Stove, Wax paper
Ingredients:
1 14oz. can of condensed milk
2 cups powdered milk
1 tsp. lemon rind
Sifted confectioner’s sugar
Getting started:
1. Combine condensed milk, powdered milk, and lemon rind in a pan.
2. Cook over low heat, stirring until mixture forms into a ball.
3. Let cool.
4. Dust large cutting board with confectioner’s sugar.
5. Flatten milk mixture on cutting board with rolling pin until 1/2-inch thick.
6. Cut into 2.5 inch by 1/2 inch pieces.
7. Wrap each piece in wax paper.

Pastillas de leche made with carabao’s milk
Materials:
pan and ladle, cup, wax paper or Japanese paper
Ingredients:
1 L of fresh carabao’s milk
1 1/2 cups sugar
Sifted confectioner’s sugar
Procedure:
1. Heat the pan and pour one liter of fresh carabao’s milk.
2. Add 1-1/2 cup of sugar
3. Bring the milk to a boil and stir till it thickens
4. Let cool.
5. Dust large cutting board with confectioner’s sugar.
6. Flatten milk mixture on cutting board with rolling pin until 1/2-inch thick.
7. Cut into 2.5 inch by 1/2 inch pieces.
8. Wrap each piece in wax paper.
Variations:
Pastillas de Nangka
- Add to basic recipe ½ cup fresh, finely chopped nangka.
Mocca Pastillas
- Dissolve 1 tbsp. Instant coffee and 2 tbsp. Unsweetened cocoa, in ¼ cup boiling water. To the basic recipe, increase powdered milk by ¼ cup.
Pinipig Pastillas
- Using the basic recipe, roll the pastillas balls on toasted pinipig (coat well), pressing a little to the ball. Then, roll on sugar.
